Maya Ravana
After trying my hands on writting sensational blogs, I've retired to the normal ones. You know I have never been the kind of guy who would sit and enjoy a good Indian cultural performance. In fact, I never had an opportunity for it. But last saturday, one of my friends persuaded me to attend a fusion dance show, and it wasn’t a bad idea after all. Today was the first time I entered into the much celebrated
MUSIC ACADEMY. And it was a fusion dance show by the Bharthanatyam dancer and Actress Shobana. The girl who came with me was a dancer, and was enthusiastic explaining me the dance; but a bit later I just preferred to sit back and simply enjoy rather than go into the ‘why’ and ‘how’behind these things.
This was the second time I’ve seen a Bharathanatyam Dance, the first being in Le Royal Meridien, performed by Kalashetra troupe. That perform was simply exhilarating and exciting. Their movements and timing with music was simply amazing. The music that comes from the ‘salangai’ by itself was a music and the beats and vocal sure created an interest in me for this Art.
I am not very sure of Shobana’s performance, I didn’t find it that good as the Kalashetra people. Now I don’t reason it with anything. I don’t know a pinch of dance, or even what it is. All I am saying is from a silly guy point of view who’s gone there for simple entertainment. But the theme was excellent. It was called ‘Maya Ravana’, and was narration of the Ramayana from the view of the villain. It is always interesting listening to the bad guy, and is quite an experience. The show had amazing music, mixing of Western and Indian. It had hi-funda people doing the voices.
Inspired by this, I have decided to attend more of plays and theatres. Want to take a break from the monotonous Indian movies, they cry and try hard to make us cry.
Gee.. where the hell is Hari heading..!!?
