B N Krishna's Report on the Feb 19 violence has been submitted to the Supreme Court. The report blames the police and the lawyers equally. The craziest part is that the Apex Court has sent bad the pending cases on the issue to the High Court at Madras, and ironically, the report blames few of the High Court Judges for inaction. In such a case, will the High Court be deciding on its own inaction?
The reason behind ordering the report according to me is two, One- to appease the lawyers who approached the Supreme Court praying justice. Secondly, because the Supreme Court did not actually know what had happened at the Madras High Court premises and so wanted some clear facts. I feel the reason is dead.
Moreover, I am surprised by the way the Apex Court had washed off its hands. I didn't expect this from the Highest Court of the land. It is a case where a High Court in India, a chartered High Court was heavily damaged by riots between the police and advocates. Is there something more instigating for a Court than this?
How is ever possible that the Supreme Court can simply transfer the case to another Court? Then what is the point in the one man Commission? I can see that lawyers have turned into a neglected community, even by the Judiciary.
The copy of the report is available here.
